FALKENBACH – Asa

FALKENBACH - Asa

Origin: Germany
Genre: Epic Black Metal Epic Metal Viking Metal
Label: Prophecy Productions
Year: 2013

Legendary epic Viking metallers Falkenbach are back with their latest full-length album “Asa“. The personal project of Vratyas Vakyas has influenced many Viking metal bands out there, since its beginning in 1989. After 5 very successful full-length albums, most of them released by Napalm Records, the band signed to Prophecy Productions, who released the 7″ vinyl single “Eweroun” on April 2013, as a preview of the upcoming album. Finally on the 1st of November 2013, the sixth album of the band was out.

There are not many things to say about “Asa“. Falkenbach have just released another masterpiece with full respect to their history. The main album consists of 9 songs, with a total duration a little over 41 minutes, while the bonus CD (of the 2CD book edition) includes 4 additional excellent songs and almost 20 minutes of music. I really can’t understand why these 4 songs were left out from the album! Anyway, there are 2 different types of compositions in the main album. Half of the songs ( 1, 3, 5 and 9 ) have a more acoustic epic metal approach with breathtaking epic clean vocals and very dominant acoustic guitars combined with epic metal riffs. The other half ( 2, 4, 6 and 8 ) belong clearly to the epic pagan black metal genre, with epic distorted guitars, screaming vocals and maybe the most aggressive sound of the band ever! There is only one song where both styles are mixed, the 7th track “Bluot Fuër Bluot“. The band has perfected its production, everything is so clear, melodic, precise and powerful; by far the best sound Falkenbach ever had and the most beautiful vocals by Vratyas Vakyas. Their orchestrations seem so rich, based almost entirely on distorted and acoustic guitars and drums, since folk instruments and synths are used rarely. All lyrics are written in an extinct West Germanic dialect (except for 2 tracks from the bonus CD in English) dealing as always with epic themes and Viking mythology.

If you are a Falkenbach fan, you most probably have already listened to the album. If you never had the luck to listen to their music, ”Asa” is the perfect album to start! Falkenbach remain in the highest level for almost 25 years now, releasing only excellent works, something really praiseworthy! “Asa” is out in various formats by Prophecy Productions: digipak CD, 2CD book (18X18cm, 48-page booklet, 4 additional tracks), gatefold LP and picture LP. The wonderful artwork is by Albert Bierstadt and the layout by Costin Chioreanu. You can visit the band’s official profile on Facebook and listen to some of their new songs.

One Response to FALKENBACH – Asa

  1. Haa, I recently listened to this one. Falkenbach is really an awesome and interesting band, and this album is really nice.

For me it seems that ‘Prophecy Productions’ is just synonym of quality music.
