Sieghetnar, the ambient black metal project of Thorkraft from Germany is re-releasing its very rare demo “Hymne der Zerbrechlichkeit“. This instrumental demo was originally released in 2009 by Nordsturm Productions in a limited to 50 copies black digipak edition. Recently the band signed to Kristallblut Records (Thorkraft’s own label) and the first outcome of this cooperation is entitled “Die Hymne der Zerbrechlichkeit²“, released the Spring of 2013. It is actually the remastered version of the demo, with added vocals by Stormulv (also on Askuror, Ravnsvart, Winterreich).
The album consists of only one song, with a total duration of over 51 minutes. It begins with very atmospheric ambient synths, emptying your head from “real-life” thoughts and filling it with abstract relaxing images. Soon though, the music becomes more anxious and after the entrance of distorted guitars in the 13th minute, the atmosphere becomes even more stressful, almost suffocating. Luckily the black metal screaming vocals and drums come as a liberation in the 18:30 mark. Hateful and passionate, Stormulv’s growls add a depressive black metal touch in the album. After the 25th minute the music becomes instrumental again with guitars, drums and few synths. Eventually drums fade out and their guitars take a more slow depressive tone. The song practically ends in the 35th minute, since afterwards there is only a 14-minute silence and a 2-minute hidden track with eerie ghostly synths and whispers…
If you are into ambient atmospheric black metal, then you most probably already know Sieghetnar. “Die Hymne der Zerbrechlichkeit²” is a very good work that includes all of the band’s natures: ambient, instrumental black and melancholic depressive black metal. Furthermore it is a huge song with a very consistent structure; it has a beginning, a bridge, an outbreak and an end. This new enhanced version of the demo is released by Kristallblut Records in a luxury 6-panel digipak with amazing photos of a deserted semi-ruined Cathedral by Holger Bär. On July 1st 2013, Sieghetnar also released their new EP “Astralwinter” again via Kristallblut. If you are interested in finding more about the band and buying their new albums, you better visit their label’s site, since there is no official page for the band yet.
