Munruthel needs no introduction, both as a musician and as a band. He is one of Nokturnal Mortum’s founding members and he has participated in many other bands too. He started his personal project under the name Silentium and in 1997 the project took his name, Munruthel. “Явь, Навь и Правь” is the first official full-length album of the band and a basic influence for many dark ambient pagan bands. The album was originally released in 1997 on tape via Kolovrat Productions and in 2004 on CD via Oskorei Music. In the summer of 2013, Gardarika Musikk re-issued the album in a deluxe digipak edition with a bonus track. The same label has also re-issued Munruthel’s 2nd and 3rd albums, “Oriana Tales” and “Epoch Of Aquarius” respectively.
“Явь, Навь и Правь” is an ambient instrumental album, dedicated to Slavonic legends and mother nature. The basic album contains 10 songs; the first 5 tracks belong in the “Summerside” and the other 5 in the “Winterside“. The total duration without the bonus track is almost 61 minutes. The music in this album is quite simplistic, mostly based on synths and samples. Dark ambient passages, acoustic folk instruments, epic symphonic keys, nature sounds and few background vocals / recitations, create a unique atmosphere, taking the listener in a journey back in time to enjoy the beauty of a more intact planet. The bonus track is entitled “Initiation of Spring” and it was recorded in 2013 at the same studio (MoonHome) where the original album was recorded too! It is a 5-minute ambient acoustic song with a somehow clearer sound and beautiful female narrations by Anna ‘Alruna’ Oklejewicz. It sounds though, as one with the rest of the album, since it has exactly the same atmosphere.
The passage of time and emotional connection adds for sure more value to these songs and its too difficult to review and “rate” the album now, almost 16 years after its creation. I can comment though its beautiful package. Gardarika Musikk released ”Явь, Навь и Правь” in a deluxe 6-panel digipak, including 5 cards (7X11cm), with 10 illustrations dedicated to each of the 10 songs. It comes with completely new artwork by AL.EX (Mayhem Design) and Alexander Brailovsky. If you couldn’t find any of its previous versions, this is your chance. Even if you have it though, you should still think about it, since except for the bonus track, the amazing package with its wonderful artwork makes it very tempting for collectors.
