Three years after their previous album, Australian epic folk black death metallers Claim the Throne from Perth return with their new masterpiece. The band was formed in 2005 and has already released 2 full-length albums, “Only the Brave Return” in 2008 and “Triumph and Beyond” in 2010, gaining more and more reputation in the local, and not only, metal scene. On September 13th, 2013 their third opus “Forged in Flame” was finally released by Prime Cuts Music, the Australian label that has released most of their works so far.
Claim the Throne have composed a really bombastic album, epic, majestic, aggressive and very melodic from start to end! Its 14 songs last for almost 69 minutes and all of them remain at the same high level. They have a killer production and an impressively tight, solid and balanced sound. Their music is epic black death metal, with folk and symphonic elements. Guitars, synths and vocals have equally important roles in their lead melodies, while acoustic passages and epic ballads add bigger variety in the whole album, making it more diverse and atmospheric. Growling vocals of various styles are combined with clean male and female vocals and epic choirs. The album is relatively up-tempo. Of course there are mid-tempo and slower parts too, but the “overall” speed is quite fast. Another noticeable thing is that their folk elements are embedded in their guitar tunes and scales, with no addition of traditional instruments! “Forged in Flame” sounds much more complete, technical, complex and mature than their previous work and the band has remarkably improved its composing and performing skills! Despite the huge album duration and the “over-exhausted” genre they belong to, their music sounds fresh, with many catchy melodies and songs that stick in your mind, like the amazing album-titled track “Forged in Flame“! They have already released an official video for the song “Zephyrus“, where you can get a first taste of the new album. As expected, their lyrics deal with epic and fantasy themes, all included in the detailed booklet.
“Forged in Flame” is a must-have for epic melodic black death metal fans, a really professional work, with a perfect “mainstream” sound and wonderful compositions. Maybe it’s time to start thinking about a new name, since there is nothing more to “claim”, the “throne” is theirs! “Forged in Flame” is released by Prime Cuts Music in a standard jewel case edition with a 16-page booklet illustrated by Chris Hancock. Visit their official pages to listen to their music and don’t hesitate to “invest” on them.
