DAWN OF A DARK AGE – The Six Elements, Vol.4 Air

DAWN OF A DARK AGE - Air

Dawn of a Dark Age is a very interesting band that has managed to release 4 quality albums in a very short period of time. It is the personal project of the multi-instrumentalist Vittorio Sabelli from Italy, who has been active like composer, saxophonist and clarinetist in the classical, jazz and avant-garde scene for over 15 years. In 2010 he formed the Pink Floyd anti-tribute prog jazz metal group R-Evolution Band. In 2014 he decided to share his personal eclectic Read more…

DE PROFUNDIS – This Winter in My Heart

DE PROFUNDIS - This Winter in My Heart

De profundis is a Hungarian atmospheric black metal band from Szombathely, formed back in 2000, by Yzokras and Zoltan, the band’s only members since then. Unluckily, due to personal reasons, the band split up in 2001. They decided to reunite 7 years later, in 2008 and released the 4-track demo “Haunted By Ill Angels Only” in 2010. In 2013 the demo plus one song was re-released as a split tape with the demo of another Hungarian black metal Read more…

IN TORMENTATA QUIETE – Cromagia

IN TORMENTATA QUIETE - Cromagia

Finally, the time has come to review the best album I’ve listened to in the recent years and one of the best ever, if not THE best – time will tell! Italian extreme progressive avant-garde metallers In Tormentata Quiete (ITQ) from Bologna really exceeded all my expectations, releasing the musical masterpiece “Cromagia“! ITQ is a quite old band, formed back in 1998 by Antonio (keyboards), Lorenzo (guitars), Francesco (drums) and Marco (screaming vocals). Despite the numerous changes in Read more…

MEDIEVAL WINTER NIGHTS – Eternal Thoughts of a Mad Shadowed Soul

MEDIEVAL WINTER NIGHTS - Eternal Thoughts of a Mad Shadowed Soul

Medieval Winter Nights is one of these bands that I randomly fell upon, while surfing on the net. There was something unusual in their artwork, album title and origin that intrigued me and soon I got their CD in my hands. The band comes from the beautiful city of Valparaíso, a major seaport and the cultural capital of Chile. Medieval Winter Nights were formed in 2008 by Nocturn and Magnum Tenebrosum, who shared the same passion for black metal and Read more…

TROLLBAND – Samsara

TROLLBAND - Samsara

Canadian blackened folk metallers Trollband have recently released their second full-length album. The band was formed in 2007 and next year they released the demo “Trollband“, a raw epic folk blackened metal work with terrible sound. In 2011, Trollband self-released their debut full-length album “In the Shadow of a Mountain“, including some songs of the demo and many new compositions. The improvement is huge, like listening to 2 different bands. The truth is that when I Read more…

ANGIZIA – Des Winters Finsterer Gesell

ANGIZIA - Des Winters Finsterer Gesell

The new Angizia album was officially released a few days ago! The Austrian masters of extreme theatrical music seem to be back for good, after their 7-year absence between 2004 and 2011. The band made its come back in the beginning of 2011 with “Kokon – Ein Schaurig-schönes Schachtelstück” and now, 19 years after their birth, their 7th full-length album “Des Winters Finsterer Gesell” is out, released again via their own label Medium Theater, like their Read more…

NEOKHROME – Perihelion

NEOKHROME - Perihelion

Neokhrome is a rather unknown Hungarian band from Debrecen. They were formed in 2001, under the name Neochrome (with “c”, not “k” ) and released their debut album “Manifestation of the Forgotten Subconscious” in 2004. Three years later the second full-length album “Downfall / Collapse” was out. Both albums were released by Nail Records, but I never listened to them. Based on some online samples, these 2 works sounded like typical black death metal, but nothing Read more…

QUADRIVIUM – Methocha

QUADRIVIUM - Methocha

4 years after their wonderful debut album, Quadrivium return with their second masterpiece of avant-garde black metal. After the release of “Adversus” in 2008, the band started writing its second album. The composition process was complete in 2009, but they wanted to expand their line-up before the recording sessions. So “Methocha” was released 3 years later, in the end of November 2012, via Soulseller Records again.

Quadrivium play melodic avant-garde metal with some black metal elements. Read more…
