SIGH – Scenes From Hell

SIGH – Scenes From Hell

Twenty years after its foundation, this unique avant-garde metal band from Japan, presents us its eighth full-length album, three years after “Hangman’s Hymn”. If you have followed Sigh through the years, you should know that you can never predict what’s coming next. Their previous album was a relentless attack of powerful majestic bombastic avant-garde black thrash metal, very different from the power metal influences of 2005’s “Gallows Gallery”. So I was curious to see what would Read more…

FJOERGYN – Jahreszeiten

FJOERGYN – Jahreszeiten

The third chapter of Fjoergyn’s trilogy is finally out. They come from Germany and particularly from Thuringia, a place with many great bands. So far they have released one album every two years. They were formed in 2003 by Stephan Löscher (also on another great Thuringian band Die Saat) and it took him exactly two years to release the debut “Ernte im Herbst” and two more years for their second work “Sade et Masoch” in 2007. IN TORMENTATA QUIETE – Teatroelementale

It was back in 2005 when I got at my hands the debut same-titled album from In Tormentata Quiete. How mistaken was I! Now, 4 years later, they return with their second work “Teatroelementale” a brilliant masterpiece, deserving every single second of waiting! Read more…

AKPHAEZYA – Anthology II - Links from the Dead Trinity

Haha, there are times when words are just too small to describe what the ears listen. How can someone review this weird album from the French band Akphaezya! At least if you read this you are obviously on internet so you can listen to samples from their page.

This is the debut album of Akphaezya, a group that exists from 2002. The band, according to their own words, plays “eclectic” metal featuring the female singer and pianist Nehl Aëlin. Actually Read more…

QUADRIVIUM – Adversus

QUADRIVIUM – Adversus

Quadrivium is a new band from Norway formed in 2005. Their 3 members are also active with other groups like Ragnarok, Vidsyn, Myrkgrav, Sworn so they are quite experienced and skilled musicians, something obvious in the quality of this impressive debut. “Adversus” is their first full length, after the “Origo” EP in 2006. Even though it was composed in 2006, it’s just in Summer 2008 that Soulseller Records finally released it.

Talking about their music, Quadrivium play avant-garde symphonic black Read more…

LE GRAND GUIGNOL – The Great Maddening

What a great pleasure is it to listen to such amazing works from bands you’d never expect! “The Great Maddening” is an album that was prepared for many years now by the band Vindsval. Vindsval are from Luxemburg and they are active since 1997, even though they existed since 1996, but with another name (Dregath). In 1999 they released their symphonic black metal debut “Imperium Grotesque” with the label “Skaldic Art Productions”. They were to release Read more…
