GERNOTSHAGEN – Weltenbrand

GERNOTSHAGEN – Weltenbrand

Gernotshagen is a pagan black metal band from Thuringia in Germany. They were formed in 1999 and they released 2 albums since then, “Wintermythen” in 2002 as a self-release and “Märe aus Wäldernen Hallen” in 2007 with their new label Trollzorn (who also re-released their debut in 200Smilie: 8). The band was deeply influenced by the Thuringian pagan metal scene and especially by their friends Menhir, offering us melodic epic pagan black metal with folk touches. Read more…

FALKENBACH – Tiurida

FALKENBACH - Tiurida

Falkenbach is one of the founders of Viking folk black metal and one of the basic influences of most bands of the genre. They were formed back in 1989 by Vratyas Vakyas, who has always been their mastermind, gathering session musicians for the recordings. He has also lived in Iceland in the past, so he got a real taste of the northern lands he sings about. After the first limited demo “Havamal” in 1989 the band released 3 Read more…

LEMURIA – Chanson de la Croisade

LEMURIA – Chanson de la Croisade

Lemuria is a relatively unknown band from Belgium, despite the fact they have been around since 2001, or actually since 1999 under the name Spinal Chill. They released their debut album “Tales, Ale and Fire” in 2005 and in the end of 2010, 5 years later, it is time for their second album “Chanson de la Croisade”. Unluckily for the band, it is also self-released, since they aren’t yet signed by any label.

ANDRAS – Warlord

ANDRAS – Warlord

Andras return with a new album, their sixth full-length, 2 years after “Iron Way”. The veteran pagan black metallers from Germany (formed back in 1994) seem to be in their “second youth” the last years, offering us 3 great albums. So, after the melodic turn in “…of Old Wisdom” and “Iron Way” and after listening to a 2-min official preview of the new album, I expected something even more melodic from the band…

ADORNED BROOD – Hammerfeste

ADORNED BROOD – Hammerfeste

Pagan folk metallers Adorned Brood are back with a brand new album, their seventh full-length. Formed in 1993 they were one of the first bands from Germany playing this genre. After their first cult releases of folk black metal “Hiltia”, “Wigand” and “Asgard” they moved to a more heavy-rock mood for the next two albums. It was only in their previous release “Noor” that they seemed to return to their more extreme Read more…

SLECHTVALK – A Forlorn Throne

SLECHTVALK – A Forlorn Throne

Dutch epic black metallers Slechtvalk return with their fourth full-length album, the first one released from Whirlwind Records. The band was formed in 1999 and signed with Fear Dark Records, a label with many “un-black” and Christian metal bands. Slechtvalk is one of those bands, but if you don’t know it you really can’t tell it from the lyrics, or titles, or thematology. On the contrary, especially on this album, their whole concept is epic viking oriented.

HELLVETO – Kry

HELLVETO – Kry

Hellveto is the personal project of L.O.N. from Poland (he has also Blakagir, an ambient band). He formed Hellveto back in 1995 and since then he has countless releases. If I am not mistaken, “Kry” is the 13th full length album so far!!! Taking into consideration that the first full-length was released in 2002 and making a quick calculation, it seems that he releases almost one and a half album each year! Actually in 2006 he released Read more…

SIGTYR – Lagnad (Demo)

SIGTYR – Lagnad

Sigtyr is actually a quite old band. They were formed by Odne in 1999 and 3 years later Jan joined the band as a full member with equal contribution to the band. After 11 years and many demos they have never dared (?) to release a full-length album. Sigtyr began as a solo project, but through the years they got a full line-up. Many of their ex-members are now on Mistur and Odne himself has also been on them. After Read more…
