ANTIQUUS SCRIPTUM – Ars Longa, Vita Brevis…

ANTIQUUS SCRIPTUM - Ars Longa, Vita Brevis

Antiquus Scriptum is a quite old Portuguese band, that I only recently found out. They are the personal project of Sacerdos Magus, who formed them back in 1998 after his departure from Firstborn Evil. Since 1999 and the first demo “Al – Mahadan MCMXCIX“, many works of Antiquus Scriptum were released and re-released via different labels, including 3 full-length albums and various compilations. Actually some of these works were released without Sacerdos Magus permit! On the 25th of Read more…

LAND OF FOG – Heathen Tales

LAND OF FOG - Heathen Tales

Land of Fog is a Brazilian epic pagan metal band from Carlos Barbosa, a city colonized around 1850 initially by Germans and later by Italians, due to its weather’s resemblance with their own countries’ climate, something that also inspired the band’s name. They were formed by Stormbringer, Triumphsword and Stroncold back in 2006. Next year they self-released the 6-track demo “Mother Land” and in 2009 they contributed 2 songs to the 6-way split “Southern Warrior’s Union“. Read more…

FOLKEARTH – Valhalla Ascendant

FOLKEARTH - Valhalla Ascendant

Back in 2004, several musicians from different countries around the world had a very interesting idea to begin a new epic folk pagan metal project, where everyone will contribute. The project got the name Folkearth and its debut album “A Nordic Poem” was released in 2004. Since then, countless musicians have participated to this project, but there is also a basic “permanent” line-up. Folkearth have been over-productive and for example in 2008 they released 3 albums! “Valhalla Read more…

BUCOVINA – Duh

BUCOVINA - Duh

Bucovina is a very interesting band from Iasi, north-eastern Romania. They were formed in 2000 and took them 6 years to release their debut album “Ceasul Aducerii-aminte” via Lupii Daciei Records. Their music back then was a mixture of black metal with traditional Romanian folk elements. The album had a great atmospheric and the band seemed to have something different to offer, but the result was somehow raw and unbalanced in my opinion.

Duh” is the Read more…

ENSIFERUM – Unsung Heroes

ENSIFERUM - Unsung Heroes

Finland’s epic folk metallers Ensiferum are back with their 5th full-length album “Unsung Heroes“. 17 years after their creation they’ve become one of the leading acts in the genre and they are already among the basic influences of many younger bands. And while their previous album “From Afar” was a typical Ensiferum album, well I can’t say the same for this one…

The album begins with a melodic instrumental intro, which actually reveals the intentions of Read more…

FOREFATHER – Last of the Line

FOREFATHER - Last of the Line

Forefather is well known in the viking / epic pagan metal circles. Brothers Athelstan and Wulfstan formed them back in 1997 and since then they remain the only members of Forefather. Coming from Surrey in England, they released their debut “Deep into Time” in 1999 introducing a very personal sound. The second album “The Fighting Man” was out in 2000 by their own label Angelisc and they started to grow in popularity. They remained faithful to Read more…

SHAMBLESS – Menra Eneidalen

SHAMBLESS – Menra Eneidalen

Shambless is a quite unknown, yet quite old band from Bulgaria. It’s basically the personal project of Arvelss Elfaros, who composes everything and plays almost all instruments, except for the guitars. The band begun back in 1997, with a very different sound from its current style. The first album “Omnipotentia” in 2003 was atmospheric medieval death doom metal, released by Discord Records. After that the band changed a lot, following a more “elfish” style. Elfaros claims he is Read more…

SUNUTHAR – Us Auter Zyt

SUNUTHAR – Us Auter Zyt

The debut album of this Swiss one-man-band is out, almost 3 years after the foundation of the group. Sunuthar (Sunday in runic) began as a side project of Fenjorn, who was member of the band Excelsis at that time (he left the band last year), in order to express some ideas that didn’t fit in Excelsis concept. Fenjorn (also known as Simon “Simu” Müller) who has participated in other projects too, like Folkearth, Folkodia and Fferyllt, decided to release his Read more…
