GRIM SKÖLL – The Woods Shall Cry Forever

GRIM SKÖLL – The Woods Shall Cry Forever

Grim Sköll is the personal project of Baal Taran, who formed the band in 2007. He is also member of many other Mexican bands, like Benatnash, Eidyllion, Dazhbog and Zonei, while he was an ex-member of Ereshkigal. In other words he is deeply involved in the underground Mexican scene. With Grim Sköll he explores his pagan side and this is his second album, after 2008’s debut “The Eleven Rivers of Hverlmir”.

The band’s music is pagan black metal Read more…

KAWIR – To Uranus

KAWIR – To Uranus

At least this EP is out, after 2 years of waiting and postponing. This initially 3 song EP was to be released as a split CD and LP with Nergal’s EP “Mesaionas”. Things didn’t go as planned and finally it is released by Those Opposed Records with a few bonus “goodies” and a total duration of 37 minutes. In my opinion it’s much better this way, since the 3 bonus tracks are the first ever Kawir songs, taken Read more…

FIMBULVET – Kriegerwahn

FIMBULVET – Kriegerwahn

Fimbulvet is a German epic black metal band from Thuringia that had impressed me with its second album “Der Ruf in Goldene Hallen” in 2008. One year later they return with a new release, something between a new full length and an EP, since “Kriegerwahn” contains only five new songs, but it lasts for almost half an hour (29 minutes).

Their style remains unchanged, melodic epic pagan metal with extreme and clean vocals. The guest appearances Read more…

HIMINBJORG – Chants d’hier, Chants de Guerre, Chants de la Terre

HIMINBJORG – Chants d'hier, Chants de Guerre, Chants de la Terre

It has been 5 years since we listened to something new from Himinbjorg, when they released the album “Europa”. After that, there was silence and almost no news from them. I actually thought the band split up, but then out of nowhere they return with a new full length from their own label European Tribes. I always liked this band from the French Alps, so I was eager to listen to their new work. Himinbjorg are usually described Read more…

DRUZHINA – Kosmonoetika

DRUZHINA – Kosmonoetika

Druzhina is a new band that was created in the summer of 2006. They are from Russia, but one of their members comes from France, something that explains why there are some French titles and lyrics in their songs. In 2008 they released their debut album “Echoes of Distant Battles” with Sound Age Productions, the label that also released this new work. Their first work was a surprisingly good album of melodic black metal with many symphonic elements, Read more…

NYDVIND – Sworn to the Elders

NYDVIND – Sworn to the Elders

Another comeback from a band that was put “on-ice” for seven years. The French epic pagan black metallers Nydvind break their silence returning with a new label and a great new album. Richard Loudin, who is also in Bran Barr, formed the band in 2000 and in 2003 they released their debut album “Eternal Winter Domain” with Sacral Productions.

Sworn to the Elders” is their second album and it continues exactly where the previous one ended. Read more…

ASHAENA – Cei Născuţi Din Pământ

Ashaena is a new band from Bârlad of Romania. They begun in 2006 as the personal project of Cosmin Hultanu, but eventually they got a full line-up with 6 members. They describe their music as Moldavian pagan metal and actually that’s what they play: pagan metal with folk and black elements honoring their ancestors’ traditions and culture. They also state they are far away from the NS ideology.

Cei Născuţi Din Pământ” (“The Ones Born from the Read more…
