OBSCURITY – Várar

OBSCURITY – Várar

The fourth full-length work from this German epic black metal band will be out on 06 of March. After their debut “Bergish Land” in 2000, in 2003 they returned with “Thurisaz” via Twilight and in 2007 they signed in Massacre to release their third album “Schlachten & Legenden”. It was obvious that the band tried to get a better distribution and get out of the “underground” territories. Let’s see if this fourth album can make it.

FOLKEARTH – Fatherland

FOLKEARTH – Fatherland

Another release by this “international” band, which has been very active lately! After “Fathers of Victory” and the acoustic “Songs of Yore” earlier in 2008 it’s time for their third release “Fatherland” in the same year. This is their sixth full-length album in their characteristic sound, released once again by the Russian label Stygian Crypt.

This time it has 11 musicians from 7 different countries, including Hellas (Luresia, Marios Koutsoukos, Polydeykis and Hildr Valkyrie), who put for a while their Read more…

The Germans are active since 1992, while their debut album “Sceptre of Black Knowledge” was released on 1998. FIMBULTYR – Gryende Tidevarv

FIMBULTYR - Gryende Tidevarv

Fimbultyr is a new band coming from Sweden playing black / death Viking metal. Formed in 2005 they released the demo “Ändlösa Frågor” in 2006, whose most songs are rerecorded and put together with new ones for their debut “Gryende Tidevarv” just released by Unexploded Records.

They play typical Viking black metal with many epic death metal elements too. They have a very powerful sound and production, where guitars and black/death vocals have the leading role. There are also many Read more…

CRIMFALL – As the Path Unfolds…

CRIMFALL – As the Path Unfolds

Crimfall is a newborn band from Finland that is ready to make (or actually already did) the great step. Even though they were formed just in 2007 and released only a 3-song demo cd-r, they managed to sign a deal with Napalm Records in order to release their debut full length “As the Path Unfolds…” in February 2009!

After listening to the cd it isn’t surprising that Napalm has great expectations from this band. Their music is symphonic, Read more…

OAKENSHIELD – Gylfaginning

OAKENSHIELD – Gylfaginning

Another promising debut from a new band, coming from UK. They were formed in 2004 under the name Nifelhel by their one and only member Ben Corkhill and released their first demo “Call of the Gods” in 2005 and the second “Upon the Blood of Ymir” in 2006. Later on, Ben changed the band’s name into Oakenshield and in 2007 the demo “Gylfaginning” was out with 4 songs from the upcoming same titled album, that Einheit Produktionen just released.

FOLKODIA – Odes From the Past

FOLKODIA – Odes From the Past

Folkodia is a new project formed in 2007, containing many musicians from different countries, including Greece, something like Folkearth (actually many members are common in both bands). So, someone could ask if there are any differences between the two bands. Well, there are and for my taste I prefer Folkodia.

The basic composers are Simon Müller from Excelsis and Loki (also in Folkearth), while all the lyrics are written mainly by Marios Koutsoukos. Their music is epic folk Viking metal, Read more…

THYRFING – Hels Vite

THYRFING – Hels Vite

The anticipation in listening to a new Thyrfing album is always great for me! Thyrfing’s “Valdr Galga” was actually the first album of Viking black metal I’ve ever listened to it and it really dragged me to this genre. So together with “Urkraft” these two are in my favourites! “Vansinnesvisor” in 2002 and “Farsotstider” in 2005 were less Viking oriented (good albums, but I didn’t like them like their predecessors) and now comes this new album, the 6th in the Read more…
