WOODTEMPLE – Sorrow of the Wind

WOODTEMPLE – Sorrow of the Wind

This is the fourth full-length album by the Austrian one-man band Woodtemple and the first in the new label Folk Produktionen. Aramath formed the band in 1998 and his music style so far was pagan epic raw black metal, very close to Graveland’s sound. With this new album though, Woodtemple seem able to make the great step into a new personal style!

Their black metal remains relatively raw, but it is enriched with many folk instruments that add a totally Read more…

ADOR DORATH – Bestiari

ADOR DORATH – Bestiari

Ador Dorath is one of the most underestimated bands in the symphonic black / extreme gothic metal genre. I believe that they remain unknown to the masses, only because of their origin and the bad distribution they have, something that I don’t see changing soon… Anyway, let’s take things from the beginning. It was 1997 when this band was formed and it took them five years to release their great (but somehow amateur) debut “Adon Nin Edeleth Ador Dorath”. Read more…

RAVENTALE – Long Passed Days

RAVENTALE – Long Passed Days

This is the second album by this new Ukrainian band, after their debut “On A Crystal Swing” in 2006. Astaroth created this band in 2005 and he plays everything on Raventale, since it’s his personal project. In their debut the band had a black metal oriented sound, while this time the music changed a lot.

Black metal elements are still obvious, but many doom metal influences are also added. A slow heavy tempo is dominant in the whole album and Read more…

SIEGHETNAR – Bewußtseinserweiterung

SIEGHETNAR – Bewußtseinserweiterung

Sieghetnar is a very mysterious band from Germany with very little “official” info about them. They were founded in 2005 by an unknown number of members (I have the feeling though that it’s just one man’s project) and they have released many albums since 2006. In 2008 they had 5 (!!!) releases and “Bewußtseinserweiterung” is one of them.

Theoretically their music belongs to the black metal genre, but all of the songs are only instrumental with many drone, ambient and Read more…

KERBENOK – O

KERBENOK – O

This is the first full-length album by Kerbenok, a remarkable new band from Germany that was formed back in 2000. After their decent mini CD “Der Erde Entwachsen (Gewollte Wunden)” in 2007 that was re-released in 2008 by Northern Silence, they return with a quality pagan black metal album, a real hidden gem!

Behind Kerbenok are Stefan and Christopher, accompanied by many session members in “O”. They composed a long album (lasting more than 71 mins) with very ambitious Read more…

ARTEP – Black War (Demo)

ARTEP – Black War

Artep is a Canadian black metal band formed in 2005. After their first demo “Fires of Mortal Deception” in 2007, where they played raw black metal with some symphonic elements, they return this November with a new 3-song promo “Black War”. This promo actually works as a “prelude” to their upcoming album “Thy Will be Done on Earth As is Done in Hell”.

This new promo contains one old and two new songs and Read more…

ANCESTRAL VOLKHVES – Perun Do Vas !!!

ANCESTRAL VOLKHVES – Perun Do Vas

Perun Do Vas !!!” is the second full-length album by this (unknown to most, I hope not for very long) Slovakian band. Ancestral Volkhves were formed in 2001 by Dod and Gamayun and the same year they released their demo “Going Towards the Gates of Mystery…” where they delivered some kind of raw pagan black metal. The demo was never distributed properly, since it was self-released… After some silence the band returned with its first official Read more…

MYRKVAR – Als Een Woeste Horde

MYRKVAR – Als Een Woeste Horde

Myrkvar is another band from the Dutch folk metal scene that seems to flourish these days (Grimm, Heidevolk, Elexorien, Thronar. etc). Formed in 2003 they released two demos before their first album is complete. Now they signed in Shiver Records to release their “Als Een Woeste Horde” debut CD.

Their music is folk black metal and they are very good at it… Black metal guitars and vocals meet folk instruments in a bizarre mix. The production is ok Read more…
