Eternal Deformity come from Poland and this is their 5th album. Their music can be described as avant-garde black metal with progressive metal elements. If you listen to their music it is clear that they have influences from bands like Arcturus, Edge of Sanity and Opeth (the progressive elements). Although they are around from 1994 this is my first touch with them and I must say that I am impressed.
The album consists of 8 songs that combine everything. You can hear fast black metal parts combined with prog/acoustic breaks and a haunting theatrical atmosphere with a very solid clear production. This is not an easy to listen album but it takes more from two or three times in order to start discovering all the things that take place in here. The guitar work is very impressive and technical with black, death and progressive riffing but for me the instrument that stands above are the keyboards with all the strange melodies and atmosphere they manage to produce (the Arcturus influences). They use mostly aggressive black metal vocals but there are some clean parts when the music calms and also parts with combination of both. Two songs that describe their style best is “Pestilence Claims no Higher Purpose” and “The Sun”.
I think that they are headed the right direction with this album and all the fans of avant-garde metal should check them out. In my opinion “The Beauty of Chaos” is one of the best albums of the genre I’ve heard the last year and definitely deserves your attention.
