TRIBE OF NEPTUNE – Gnosis

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Tribe of Neptune is a new band from Thessaloniki, with very little info known about them, since they don’t have any site. Its members are also active with other bands, like Aethyr, Empathy, Shadowcraft and Prometheus, but “Gnosis” is their first work with Tribe of Neptune. It is a full-length album and the band didn’t release any demo before, so this is the first encounter with their music.

This debut album is very interesting and the band has Read more…

KAWIR – To Uranus

KAWIR – To Uranus

At least this EP is out, after 2 years of waiting and postponing. This initially 3 song EP was to be released as a split CD and LP with Nergal’s EP “Mesaionas”. Things didn’t go as planned and finally it is released by Those Opposed Records with a few bonus “goodies” and a total duration of 37 minutes. In my opinion it’s much better this way, since the 3 bonus tracks are the first ever Kawir songs, taken Read more…

DISOLVO ANIMUS – Aleatoric Morte

DISOLVO ANIMUS - Aleatoric Morte

Disolvo Animus is a newcomer from Hellas, that where formed in 2006 by Animus (vocals, guitars). After the self-titled demo in 2006, a promo in 2008 and numerous changes they finally look to have a more solid line-up and they signed with Orkestral Promenade Productions to release the debut EP called “Aleatoric Morte”.

Before listening to this EP, the only info I got was that they where playing symphonic black metal, a genre not very popular in our country’s Read more…

ANCESTRAL RHYMES – The Cosmic Law (Demo)

ANCESTRAL RHYMES – The Cosmic Law

Ancestral Rhymes is a new ambitious band from Trikala, Greece. The two members of the band (Dimitris: all instruments and vocals, Sofia: keyboards) begun in 2007 and this demo EP is their first work.

It isn’t easy to describe their music, since they have a very personal and unique sound. In their site they are labeled as “black metal and ambient”, but that’s not very accurate in my opinion. Keyboards have a very important role in their music. All the Read more…

AHERUSIA – And the Tides Shall Reveal the Traces

AHERUSIA – And the Tides Shall Reveal the Traces

Being a great fan of pagan folk black metal, I was always disappointed by the lack of any bands from Hellas that would dare to experiment with our rich traditional music, like countless bands from other countries do. With very few exceptions, like the beginning of Fiendish Nymph, or few influences here and there, there is no band in this genre. So, when I fell upon Aherusia through myspace, I just couldn’t believe my ears! Their two songs sounded more Read more…

CRY OF SILENCE – Wandering Through Pagan Times

CRY OF SILENCE – Wandering Through Pagan Times

The second album from Cry of Silence is just released. This Hellenic black metal band was formed in 2006 by Granath (who is also in Sarvari) and in 2007 released the debut album “Walking Through the Eternal Tragedy” with the label Zyklon-B Productions. This time Cry of Silence got a second member, Tatiana, who contributed with her female vocals.

Their music is raw pagan black metal with a very depressive atmosphere. Compared to their first album, the basic difference is Read more…

NIHASA – Brahamanda Xul Grimoire

NIHASA - Brahamanda Xul Grimoire

Nihasa is a new project of Acherontas (who is also behind the bands Acherontas and Stutthof) and Porphyrion (former singer of Kawir). “Brahamanda Xul Grimoire” is their first album and it sounds very interesting. They will also release a split EP with Drowning the Light and Possession Ritual on September.

Even though their thematology remains close to Acherontas, their sound is quite different. They have a more old school black metal approach and a less “occult” atmosphere. Except for the Read more…
