SUNUTHAR – Us Auter Zyt

SUNUTHAR – Us Auter Zyt

The debut album of this Swiss one-man-band is out, almost 3 years after the foundation of the group. Sunuthar (Sunday in runic) began as a side project of Fenjorn, who was member of the band Excelsis at that time (he left the band last year), in order to express some ideas that didn’t fit in Excelsis concept. Fenjorn (also known as Simon “Simu” Müller) who has participated in other projects too, like Folkearth, Folkodia and Fferyllt, decided to release his Read more…

ASTRAL SILENCE – Astral Journey

ASTRAL SILENCE – Astral Journey

Astral Silence is a new band coming from Switzerland. Quaoar is the only person behind this project and he formed them in 2008. In 2009 he released a split album with De Silence et d’Ombre and Aton and in 2010 the debut album “Astral Journey” was released by the Russian label Kunsthauch in a nice looking and somehow “luxurious” format.

As someone could guess from the band name and album title, Astral Silence play a mixture of ambient Read more…

ELUVEITIE – Everything Remains (As it Never Was)

ELUVEITIE – Everything Remains (As it Never Was)

Eluveitie is a band that needs no introduction. They are one of the most successful (if not the most) folk bands these days, as their contract with Nuclear Blast easily reveals. This 8-member Swiss band that was formed in 2002 has already released 4 albums and is touring around the world with great success. Their last year’s album “Evocation I – The Arcane Dominion” was an acoustic folk album, but now they return with their “official” folk black/death Read more…

UNHOLY MATRIMONY – Croire, Décroître

UNHOLY MATRIMONY – Croire, Décroître

Unholy Matrimony is the third personal project of Vladimir Cochet, the man behind Mirrorthrone and Weeping Birth. With this band he explores his black metal side and he has already released 2 albums before the new one. He begun in 2000 and the first album “Love & Death” was out on 2002, followed by “Misologie” next year. Both works presented very melodic, yet melancholic, fast black metal with synths. I liked both albums very much Read more…

WEEPING BIRTH – Anosognosic Industry of the I

WEEPING BIRTH – Anosognosic Industry of the I

Weeping Birth is another project of Vladimir Cochet (the man behind Mirrorthrone and Unholy Matrimony) and like always he composes and performs everything on his own. Eeven though the CD was released by the Swiss label Conatus Records in 2008, I think it was actually distributed in 2009 (not the greatest distribution though).

This is the second album of the band, after the debut “A Painting of Raven and Rape” in 2003. Weeping Birth’s music is fast brutal technical death Read more…

ELUVEITIE – Evocation I (The Arcane Dominion)

ELUVEITIE – Evocation I

Eluveitie is maybe the most famous band from Switzerland and one of the biggest names in pagan folk metal scene. After the EP “Vên” in 2004 and their very successful debut “Spirit” in 2006 (both released by Fear Dark Records), the 8-membered band signed in Nuclear Blast to release their second album “Slania” in 2008.

In all these three albums Eluveitie played pagan folk black / death metal with many traditional instruments, brutal male lead vocals combined with some female Read more…

PAYSAGE D’HIVER – Kristall & Isa

PAYSAGE D’HIVER – Kristall & Isa

This is the fifth album of Paysage d’Hiver the solo project of Wintherr, who is also a member of DarkSpace. He is from Switzerland, and he actually released all of his albums (8 so far, plus a demo and 2 split releases) on tape. Later he decided to re-release all of them one by one on A5 digipak versions by his own label Kunsthall Produktionen. So this is his last release, even though the tape version is from 2001!

MIRRORTHRONE – Gangrene

MIRRORTHRONE – Gangrene

Mirrorthrone is one of Vladimir Cochet’s many projects. He comes from Switzerland and he is the founder and only member of three active bands: Mirrorthrone, Unholy Matrimony and Weeping Birth and he released a new album in 2008 with each of them. Even though the three projects have some similarities, Mirrorthrone has a more experimental atmospheric approach, Unholy Matrimony a more black, and Weeping Birth a more death metal approach.

“Gangrene” is Mirrorthrone’s third album, after “of Wind and Weeping” Read more…
